From chicken to lobster, showgoers in the "Entertainment Capital of the World" had a wide choice of dining experiences to choose from and it took a lot of panic out of the evening. You didn't have to find a place to eat before the show--dinner was part of the show.
Then years went by and belts tightened and, slowly, one by one, every hotel in the city dropped the dinner show for cocktails only--and sometimes not even that.
But the Flamingo Hilton, a treasured Las Vegas tradition in and of itself, has held fast to the last remaining dinner show-- "The Great Radio City Spectacular," starring the Radio City Rockettes and featuring special guest stars.
Here, in the lushly remodeled Flamingo Showroom, in a setting the harkens back to the glamour of the old Las Vegas, showgoers have a complete dinner waiting for them, with prices as low as $40.87 to $48.70, plus tax and gratuity.
Beginning with a selection of appetizers including a luscious Seafood Cocktail Supreme and chilled Fruit Cocktail that cost only a few extra dollars, and a salad of fresh mixed greens, showgoers at the Flamingo Hilton can choose from the traditionally excellent Roast Prime Rib or a tender young chicken roasted and served with a hearty red wine sauce.
Steak lovers need look no further than the broiled New York steak and seafood aficionados will be thrilled with the boneless filet of Atlantic salmon, poached and topped with a creamy dill white wine sauce.
Dessert is vanilla ice cream truffle with chocolate bavarian cream, as luscious to look at as it is to eat, with the swirls of chocolate creating waves around the ice cream.
With a compete wine list to choose from, showgoers should be content even before the curtain goes up--and when that curtain does go up, the evening only gets better. "The Great Radio City Spectacular" serves up a slice of New York City at its best, as the famed Radio City Rockettes demonstrate why they have the reputation as the best precision dancers in the world.
"Beauty and the Beast" star Paige O'Hara is the effervescent guide for the evening, lighting up the stage with both her show presence and her wide ranging repertoire of music--including the title song from the Disney animated hit.
Also featured in the evening's lineup of entertainment are master magicians Tim Kole and Jenny-Lynn, comedic juggler Nino Frediani, and Stacy Moore and his madcap "Mess of Mutts."
"The Great Radio City Spectacular" plays twice nightly, except Friday, at the Flamingo Hilton Las Vegas. Call 733-3333 for tickets.
